From earth you came... and out of a woman's womb. In the performance 'W.O.M.B.' motherhood and body ideals are taken into consideration. Is visualized and expressed with emotional care by three female dancers. They create abstractions in an almost ritualistic dance about the changes the female body goes through in the transformation to motherhood.
The performers have set up mirrors so that the audience can also look into the notions that we may have about the ideal childbearing female body. The archetypal body images as sculptural idols that must somehow be played out are the essence of the performance.
'W.O.M.B.' is beautiful visual stage art. A spicy greeting to the earth that kicks the dust of old body ideals and challenges its audience's sense of abstraction.
The dance performance is called 'W.O.M.B.' and is part of 'Det Frie Felts Festival' which currently fills the theater halls in Aarhus. A free and independent festival with new shots from the performing arts milieu. The letters 'W.O.M.B.' means Worth Of My Body and uses both the absurd and abstract universe in its expression.
The 3 performers in 'W.O.M.B' have soft bodies, rocking bosoms, hips move in rhythmic thrusts. The weight of the legs on the floor, bumps, stomps. Ritual rhythms, repetitions. From earth you have come... Surrounded by fruits. The performance has a hold on its own roots and that makes it good.
The deep rhythm of earth through African and tribal-like steps. The breath that oxygenates the women's bodies sounds like a firm and jerky drum and intertwines with the sound design live on stage. The drumming. This is where life or the idea of life begins. Without the woman's deep breathing, no birth.
Thanks for a good experience to the team behind 'W.O.M.B.' and to the 'Det Frie Felts Festival' which is currently hosted by Aarhus.
